BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- UAB junior guard Chad Frazier has been named the Conference USA Player of the week following a standout performance in the 2013 Charleston Classic this past week, the league office announced on Monday.
Frazier started off the 2013 Charleston Classic with two-straight 30-plus point performances with 34 against New Mexico and 32 vs. Nebraska on his way to being named to the 2013 Charleston Classic All-Tournament Team.
It marked the first time since 2008 that a UAB player has scored over 30 points in back-to-back games. The Charlotte, N.C. native, who has scored in double figures in every game this year, was 19-of-32 (59%) from the field, 7-of-12 (58%) from 3-point range and 21-of-24 (88%) from the free throw line in the first two games of the Charleston Classic – a 97-94 double-overtime loss to No. 19 New Mexico and an 87-74 win against Nebraska.
Frazier scored 10 points in Sunday's game against Temple to finish with 76 total points in the tournament -- the second-most in Charleston Classic history.
Frazier is the second-straight UAB player to take home the weekly honor. Junior forward C.J. Washington was previously named C-USA Player of the Week on Nov. 18.
Frazier and the Blazers take on Florida A&M at 1 p.m. CST Wednesday at Bartow Arena.
