UAB Entertains Marathon Basketball For Second Exhibition Contest

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - - The UAB basketball team holds its final preseason exhibition contest in preparation for the 2000-2001 season here Wednesday when they take on Marathon Basketball in a 7 p.m. contest at Bartow Arena.

The Blazers are off a 95-82 victory last Thursday against the California All-Stars as five different UAB players scored in double figures.

Junior college transfers Eric Batchelor and P.J. Arnold, both of Memphis, Tenn., collected 19 points apiece in the victory, while David Walker (Springfield, Tenn.), Will Campbell (Elmira, N.Y) and LeAndrew Bass (Birmingham, Ala.) all added 10 points.

All 14 Blazers saw action in the affair and every player scored in the contest. In addition, UAB dished out 23 assists as a team, while only committing seven turnovers.

UAB expects to start the same five it did in the first exhibition contest with Bass and Tony Johnson (Morganfield, Ky.) at the guards, with Batchelor, Campbell and Walker to handle the forward spots.

Following the Wednesday's contest, UAB opens the regular season Tuesday (Nov. 21) when they play host to Alabama A&M. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Bartow Arena.
