BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior center Fahro Alihodzic of the UAB men's basketball team was named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced on Wednesday. The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week award recognizes Blazers who succeed on and off their respective fields of competition.
Alihodzic played a big part in the men's basketball team's 79-76 victory against Rutgers in the Bartow Classic on Monday, Nov. 11. The Vlasenica, Bosnia native had 14 points and a career-best 12 rebounds to help lead the Blazers' to its second victory of the 2013-14 season. It marked Alihodzic's first double-double of his UAB career, as well.
Off the court, Alihodzic is a standout in the classroom. The senior center owns a 3.02 overall GPA. He has already graduated with a degree in economics and is now pursuing a second undergraduate degree in marketing. Last year, Alihodzic was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll for his efforts in the classroom.
The UAB men's basketball team will be back in action on Thursday, Nov. 14 when it hosts Troy. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT in Bartow Arena.
