UAB Picked To Finish Third In National Division Of C-USA Preseason Poll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - - The UAB men's basketball team has been picked to finish third in the National Division of Conference USA by the league's 12 coaches in their annual preseason poll. The poll, along with the preseason all-league team, was released today by the conference office in Chicago.

The Bearcats of Cincinnati have been picked to win their sixth straight league championship in 2000-2001, while South Florida junior forward B.B. Waldon garnered the preseason Player of the Year nod. Waldon collected 17.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for the Bulls last season.

In the poll, the coaches selected USF to win the National Division, followed by Memphis, UAB, Southern Miss, Houston and Tulane. Behind UC in the American Division, the league's coaches tabbed DePaul, Charlotte, Louisville, Marquette and Saint Louis in that order.

Fellow USF player Altron Jackson joined Waldon on the preseason squad, along with Kelly Wise of Memphis, Marques Maybin of Louisville, Kenny Satterfield of UC and Brian Wardle of Marquette.
