BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB fans got their first glimpse of the Blazers' men's basketball team on Saturday as head coach Jerod Haase and his squad went through a two-hour open scrimmage.

The coaching staff split the Blazers into the Green team and the White team and played two 20-minute periods in front of a strong contingent of UAB supporters.

"I am very pleased with the crowd of Blazer fans we had here to watch us today," Haase said. "As far as the scrimmage itself, I think we continue to progress, and I like where we are at right now as a team."

In all,  five players scored in double figures, led by senior guard Jordan Swing, who led all scorers with 18 points and seven rebounds on the day.

UAB's post players were also impressive on Saturday. Junior forward C.J. Washington was the Blazers' second-leading scorer with 17 points and finished just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds. Meanwhile, senior center Fahro Alihodzic added 11 points and three boards through two periods.

"Our post play in general is going to be the strength of our team," Haase said. "This year, we have a lot  more guys down there who will give us some depth. The overall length of our frontcourt is going to help us this year and give us more options."

UAB wrapped up its third week of practice with Saturday's scrimmage. The Blazers open the 2013-14 season with an exhibition contest against Milligan (Tenn.) College on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. CT.
