Blazers' Recruiting Class Among Nation's Best

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB men's basketball 2000 recruiting class has been recognized by Hoop Scoop and All-Star Sports as being among the nation's elite. All Star Sports' rankings, compiled by Bob Gibbons, had the Blazers' class ranked 19th nationally and Hoop Scoop's list, compiled by Clark Francis, had UAB checking in at no. 24.

"We're very excited about this year's class," said head coach Murry Bartow. "We feel as though we have brought in a very talented group of young men who will help us tremendously."

In the top 25 polls UAB's class ranked ahead of Florida State, Brigham Young, North Carolina State, Indiana, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh and Houston.

The Blazers' signees for the 2000-01 season include George "P.J." Arnold, a 6-5 guard from Holmes Community College, Eric Batchelor, a 6-7 forward from Northeast Mississippi Junior College, Will Campbell, a 6-8 forward from Chipola Junior College, Tom Frericks, a 6-9 center from Greenwood High School in Kentucky, and Asa Woods, a 6-5 guard from Dora High School in Alabama.
