BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's and women's basketball teams have begun preseason practice for the 2013-14 season, and the first week will culminate this Friday when the second Hoops on the Haasephalt is held.
The event will take place on an outdoor basketball court, which will be erected on the LOT 15A parking lot in front of the Bell and Ullman Buildings.
This year's Hoops on the Haasephalt will feature plenty of events for UAB students, alumni and supporters of Blazer basketball. There will be a Kids Zone with inflatables for children as well as games and prizes for UAB students.
Also part of this year's festivities will be well-known BMX flatland star Terry Adams, who will take part in the main event on Friday.
Food trucks from Full Moon BBQ, as well as Cantina (mexican restaurant), will be at the event, offering free food for UAB students. The UAB SAAC will also be hosting a canned food drive and encourages fans to bring cans with them.
Below is a timeline for Friday's Hoops on the Haasephalt, which will begin at 6 p.m.
6:00-6:30 p.m. - Men's and Women Basketball Autograph Session
6:30-7:00 p.m. - Women's National Wheelchair Team
7:00 p.m. - Main Event (Introduction of UAB men's and women's basketball teams, performances by UAB Golden Girls and cheerleaders, men's basketball drills, 3-point competition, dunk contest, dance competition and half-court shot for tuition)
