BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Head coach Jerod Haase and the UAB men's basketball team unveiled its new state-of-the-art locker room to media members on Thursday as Haase gave reporters a personal tour of the facility.
The locker room, which now encompasses 2,246 square feet of Bartow Arena, features 16 large cherry veneer lockers, a players lounge with a gaming station and plush leather seating, five coaches lockers, seven showers with a built-in stereo system and an 80-inch Sharp Aquos flat screen television, among other features.
"This project has been phenomenal for our program," Haase said. "It has exceeded any expectations. I was very involved with the design and all the elements in it, and kept up with its development throughout. It has absolutely blown me away."
While visiting with media on Thursday, the second-year UAB coach detailed why he feels like the new facility is important for his program. According to Haase, it is all about the players and giving them a first-rate facility.
"We are stressing in our program the importance of doing everything first class, whether that means showing up to class and making good grades or doing the best in your workouts -- everything is first class," Haase said. "With this new locker room they understand there is a great commitment from the university and our staff."
The new facility, which took just over three months to complete, also features a state-of-the-art Lutron lighting system, a Creston Control System that serves as a hub for all operating systems (LED lights, televisions and the sound system). The locker room also has two, 40-inch flat-screen televisions as well as a 70-inch Sharp LCD touch-screen monitor.
The Blazers, now in their second season under Haase, begin the 2013-14 season with an exhibition game against Milligan College on Nov. 3 at Bartow Arena.
