BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Home games against LSU and South Florida, a trip to the prestigious Battle 4 Atlantis, a matchup with North Carolina, an 18-game Conference USA slate and a C-USA Championship that will be held in Birmingham highlight the 2014-15 UAB men's basketball schedule, head coach Jerod Haase announced on Thursday.
The Blazers tip off the season on Nov. 7 with an exhibition contest against UNC Pembroke, before hosting Louisiana Monroe in the season opener on Nov. 15 inside Bartow Arena.
"With this schedule we wanted to play some of the top teams in college basketball and also create a strong home schedule, " Haase said. "We feel like we have accomplished both of those and have given our team, as well as our fans, some great matchups to be a part of."
UAB starts the season with four-straight home games. Following a contest against Young Harris on Nov. 17, the Blazers host former league foe USF on Nov. 20, before hosting Jackson State on Nov. 23.
UAB opens up the December portion of the schedule with four more home games as the Blazers welcome Morehead State (12/4), Illinois State (12/7), UNC Asheville (12/14) and LSU (12/18) to begin the month.
Haase's team then hits the road for its first true road test of the season when the squad travels to Chattanooga on Dec. 22. Following a brief break for the Christmas holidays, UAB then returns to Chapel Hill, N.C., to face North Carolina on Dec. 27. Last season, the Blazers defeated the then 16th-ranked Tar Heels, 63-59, at Bartow Arena.
The matchup with UNC sets the stage for the 2014-15 Conference USA slate -- UAB's 20th in the league.
For the second-straight year, the Blazers open the league schedule at Middle Tennessee on Jan. 4, followed by the home opener against Florida Atlantic (Jan. 8) and a home matchup with FIU (Jan. 10).
The Blazers' conference road schedule features trips to Louisiana Tech (Jan. 15), Southern Miss (Jan. 17), UTEP (Jan. 29), UTSA (Jan. 31), North Texas (Feb. 12), Rice (Feb. 14), Florida Atlantic (March 5) and FIU (March 7).
In addition to Florida Atlantic and FIU, the Blazers will welcome Charlotte (Jan. 22), Old Dominion (Jan. 24), Louisiana Tech (Feb. 5), Southern Miss (Feb. 7), Western Kentucky (Feb. 19), Marshall (Feb. 21) and Middle Tennessee (Feb. 28) to Bartow Arena this season.
The Blazers conclude the season with the Conference USA Championship, which will be held in Birmingham on March 11-14.
All game times for the 2014-15 schedule will be released at a later date. Ticket information for all UAB men's basketball home games can be found by contacting the UAB Athletics Ticket Office at 205-975-UAB1 or visit UABSports.com.
