BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Chad Frazier, one of the top-rated junior college players in the country, signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at UAB for the 2013-14 season, Blazer head coach Jerod Haase announced on Monday.
Frazier, who was ranked the 16th-best junior college prospect in the country by JUCOrecruiting.com, played guard the last two seasons at Gulf Coast (Fla.) Community College under head coach Jay Powell.
The 6-foot-4, 190 pound guard was also the 13th-rated prospect by JucoJunction.com.
"Chad posses all the qualities that we are looking for to run our system," Haase said. "His scoring ability, passing ability, along with his size and athleticism will enable him to do great things for us."
In his second year with the Commodores, Frazier averaged 15.6 points, 4.7 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game en route to earning FCSAA/NJCAA Regional VIII All-State Team accolades. In addition, he reached double figure point totals in 23 of 29 games this past season.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Frazier earned All-Panhandle First Team honors during his freshman campaign, recording 15 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest.
"Coming from the Panhandle Conference, Chad will be ready to contribute right away. He comes from a great family and we are excited for all of them to be apart of our family here at UAB," Haase said.
Prior to playing for the Commodores, Fraizer attended First Assembly Christian High School, where he averaged 18.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.0 steals per game his senior season. He helped lead the Eagles to a 25-3 overall record.
