EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - A pair of former UAB men's basketball players helped the Austin Toros to the 2012 NBA Developmental League title on Saturday night.
Squeaky Johnson and Jamarr Sanders each made contributions to help lead the Toros to a 122-110 victory over Elijah Millsap and the L.A. D-Fenders in the third and deciding game of the championship series.
Johnson, who began the 2011-12 season as a member of the New Orleans Hornets, finished the night with five points and five assists in 26 minutes of action in the finale. Sanders did not register any points in two minutes of action.
Johnson averaged 8.7 points and 3.3 assists per game during the three-game series, averaging almost 25 minutes per game off the bench. Sanders contributed 1.3 points a game in just over seven minutes a contest.
Despite the loss, Millsap was sensational for the D-Fenders throughout the three-game championship series. He recorded 26 points and seven rebounds in Saturday night's deciding contest, despite playing with an ankle injury throughout the second half.
For the three-game series, Millsap averaged 24.3 points and 7.3 rebounds a game, while shooting 44-percent from the floor and 90-percent from the foul line.
