BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The gametime for the UAB-NC State National Invitation Tournament second round contest has been set for a 4 p.m. CT tipoff, officials announced on Wednesday.
The Blazers and Wolfpack will play in front of a nationally-televised audience Saturday afternoon at Bartow Arena, as the game is set to be televised on ESPNU.
The game will mark just the fourth time UAB has played host to an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent. Additionally, it is the first time an ACC foe has invaded Bartow Arena since March 22, 1993, when Clemson dropped a 65-64 decision to the Blazers in the second round of the NIT.
UAB, a No. 2 seed in the Mississippi State region, advanced to the second round of this year's NIT on the strength of a 65-49 victory over seventh-seeded Coastal Carolina Tuesday night. The win at Bartow Arena marked the fifth time the Blazers have hosted an NIT postseason game, winning each of the previous five contests.
Sixth-seeded NC State advanced to play in Birmingham after a 58-57 upset win at No. 3 seed USF Tuesday. The Wolfpack's Richard Howell hit a layup with eight seconds remaining to lift his team to a victory. The win marked NC State's sixth victory over its last eight contests coming into its contest at UAB.
