CHARLOTTE, N.C. ---- The UAB men’s basketball team looks to win its second-straight road game of the season when the Blazers renew their rivalry with Charlotte at Halton Arena on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. CT.
The contest will air on FS1, with Adam Alexander (play-by-play) and Mike Gminski (analyst) on the call. Fans can also listen to the action on HOT 107.7 FM in Birmingham. David Crane (play-by-play) and Bobby Frasor (analyst) will carry the action on the Blazer IMG Sports Network.
Five Things To Know
- UAB renews its series with old Conference USA foe Charlotte on Saturday. The Blazers and 49ers played every season from 1996 until 2005, when Charlotte left C-USA. UAB leads the all-time series, 25-15.
- 3-point field goals will play a pivotal role in Saturday’s contest. Charlotte ranks second in C-USA in 3-point FG percentage (35.7%), while the Blazers rank fifth in 3-point FG percentage defense (30.7%).
- UAB had nine players score on Thursday vs. Marshall. It marked the second time this season in Conference USA play that the Blazers have had nine players score a basket. UAB had nine scorers against Southern Miss -- an 84-60 UAB victory on Feb. 13.

UAB-Charlotte Series Information
» The Blazers renew their rivalry against former Sun Belt Conference and Conference USA opponent Charlotte on Saturday. UAB and Charlotte were former Sun Belt Conference foes from 1980 until 1991, and Conference USA opponents from the 1995-96 season until the 2004-05 season, when the 49ers left the league. Charlotte rejoined C-USA at the beginning of the 2013-14 season.
» UAB owns a 25-15 series advantage against the 49ers and has won three of the last four meetings. The Blazers’ longest streak in the series came from 1981 until 1987, when UAB won 15 in a row against Charlotte.

» According to ESPN.com’s statistical rankings, UAB is the No. 2 rebounding team in the nation, averaging 45.5 boards per game. The Blazers have recorded over 50 rebounds nine times this season (54 vs. Rutgers, 53 vs. Troy, 62 vs. New Mexico, 52 vs. North Carolina 51 vs. Alabama A&M, 50 vs. Newberry College, 53 at North Texas, 50 at Tulsa, and 51 at Marshall). The 62 against New Mexico represented just the fifth time in school history that UAB has had 60-plus rebounds. The school record is 69, which came against South Alabama on Dec. 20, 1994.
Chad Frazier Conference USA’s Second-Leading Scorer
» UAB guard Chad Frazier is ranked second in Conference USA in scoring with 18.1 points per game. In conference games only, Frazier leads the league in scoring with 18.7 ppg in league action.
» Frazier has scored 20 or more points in seven of the last nine games, including a 27-point performance against Old Dominion on Jan. 30. Frazier has led UAB in scoring 14 times this season and recorded 20 points or more 10 times.
Williams Lands On UAB’s Career Rebounds Chart
» UAB senior guard Robert Williams has moved into 10th place on the Blazers’ all-time career rebounds chart. Williams, who has recorded 560 rebounds in his career, is tied with Reginald Turner, who played at UAB from 1985-89.
Trio Of Freshmen Stepping Up
» UAB’s freshmen trio of Denzell Watts, Tyler Madison and Tosin Mehinti stepped up against Marshall on Thursday. The three combined to play 41 minutes of action, with Watts leading the way with nine points off a 3-for-6 shooting effort. Mehinti, who has seen action in every game this season, played 10 minutes and had four points and two blocks against Marshall, while Madison played 10 minutes and registered four points for the Blazers.
Blazers’ Defense Stifles Marshall
» UAB held Marshall to just 38.3 percent shooting from the field on Thursday night, marking the 11th time this season the Blazers have held an opponent below 40 percent shooting. UAB is 10-1 when holding opponents below the 40 percent mark in a game.
When The Blazers Are At Their Best
» UAB is now 15-3 this season when point guard Chad Frazier has recorded more than three assists in a game. Frazier recorded eight assists against Marshall on Thursday and has registered 10 assists in a single game twice this season.
» The Blazers are also 11-1 this season when senior guard Jordan Swing hits at least one 3-point basket in a game.
Swing Approaching 1,000 Career Points
» UAB guard Jordan Swing is approaching the 1,000 career point mark. The Birmingham native, who now has 992 career points, began his career at Western Kentucky before transferring to the hometown Blazers for his final three seasons.
Two UAB Players Have Started Every Game
» Fahro Alihodzic and Chad Frazier have found themselves in the starting lineup in each of UAB’s 26 games this season. Jordan Swing saw his 27-game streak in the Blazers’ starting lineup come to an end in UAB’s last game vs. East Carolina.
» Charlotte, who is currently 14-11 overall and 5-7 in Conference USA action, enters Saturday’s contest having lost four-straight on the season. The 49ers have lost two-straight home games with losses to Marshall and Middle Tennessee in back-to-back games. Against Middle Tennessee on Thursday, the 49ers hit just 2-for-11 from 3-point range.
