BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB's men's basketball team is set for a road trip through the state of Florida this week. The Blazers begin the road swing in Miami, Fla., with a Thursday game against FIU at 6 p.m. CT.
Fans can catch all the action on the Blazer IMG Sports Network with David Crane (play-by-play) and Bobby Frasor (analyst) on the call. The two games this week will be broadcast locally on 107.7 FM.
Five Things To Know
• UAB and FIU meet for the first time in school history on Thursday.
• The Blazers are looking to win their second-straight Conference USA road game. UAB defeated Tulsa, 70-63, on Jan. 25.
• UAB is led by a pair of junior college transfers in Chad Frazier and C.J. Washington. The two have combined to lead UAB in scoring in 19 of the team’s 21 games this season. Either Frazier or Washington have led UAB in scoring in three-straight games with 20 point efforts in each contest.
• The Blazers have recorded 50 or more rebounds in eight games this season and lead the nation in rebounds per game with 46.7 per contest.
• Joining Washington and Frazier in double figure scoring this season is senior forward Rod Rucker, who averages 11.1 ppg and 7.4 rebounds per game. Rucker has led UAB in scoring in two C-USA games, including 21 vs. Tulsa in the team’s last road contest.

UAB Nation’s Best Rebounding Team
» According to ESPN.com’s statistical rankings, UAB is the No. 1 rebounding team in the nation, averaging 46.7 boards per game. The Blazers have recorded over 50 rebounds eight times this season (54 vs. Rutgers, 53 vs. Troy, 62 vs. New Mexico, 52 vs. North Carolina 51 vs. Alabama A&M, 50 vs. Newberry College, 53 at North Texas and 50 at Tulsa). The 62 against New Mexico represents just the fifth time in school history that UAB has had 60-plus rebounds. The school record is 69, which came against South Alabama on Dec. 20, 1994.
Frazier’s 20-point Streak
» UAB guard Chad Frazier has scored 20 or more points in three of the last four games, including a 27-point performance against Old Dominion on Jan. 30. Frazier has led UAB in scoring 11 times this season and recorded 20 points or more seven times.
Frazier League’s Best In Conference Play
» Chad Frazier is Conference USA’s leading scorer in conference play. Frazier, who is averaging 18.4 points per game in conference action, has led UAB in scoring in four of the team’s seven C-USA games.
Blazers’ Success At The Line
» UAB is currently ranked No. 5 in Conference USA in free-throw percentage for the season, hitting 357-of-516 (.692) overall. In conference games only, however, the Blazers are knocking in just 104-of-166 (.627), which ranks No. 14 in the league.
Watts Seeing Increased Playing Time
» UAB freshman guard Denzell Watts has seen increased playing time in Conference USA play. The Flint, Mich., native averages 18.9 minutes per game in league action and scores 3.9 points per game against conference opponents. He has played 20 minutes or more in five of UAB’s seven conference games this season.
Washington Heats Up Against ODU & ECU
» UAB junior forward C.J. Washington hit a season-best percentage from 3-point range (3-for-4, 75 percent) against Old Dominion on Jan. 30. Washington scored 19 points against ODU and finished with eight rebounds. Washington followed with a game-high 25 points vs. East Carolina on Feb. 1. He has now scored in double figures 13 times this season.
Swing Approaching 1,000 Career Points
» UAB guard Jordan Swing is approaching the 1,000 career point mark. The Birmingham native, who now has 976 career points, began his career at Western Kentucky before transferring to the hometown Blazers for his final three seasons.
» FIU, which has an overall record of 11-11 and 3-4 mark in Conference USA action, enters Thursday’s contest having lost two-straight games. The Panthers fell to Marshall, 80-68, on Jan. 30 and Charlotte, 73-61, on Feb. 1.
» The Panthers have four players averaging in double figures, led by Tymell Murphy’s 16.7 ppg. Dennis Mavin and Jerome Frink have started every game this season, while Murphy and Rakeem Buckles have started 21 of 22 games for the Panthers.
