REBOUNDING MARGIN: This season the Blazers are outrebounding their opponents by a margin of 3.7 per contest as they have accumulated 39.3 boards per game. Twice this season, UAB has had a 20-plus rebounding advantage coming against Texas Tech (+21) and Tulane (+22). UAB is 9-1 this season in games when they outrebound its opponent.
LINEUP CHANGES: Through the first 17 games, the Blazers have started eight different lineups - including altering it in each of the last three games - and eight UAB players have made at least one start. Only senior LeAndrew Bass and junior Eric Batchelor have started in every game. The most used lineup for UAB has been Bass and Tony Johnson at guard, Batchelor and David Walker at forward and Will Campbell at center. That lineup has been used six times during the season.
HITTING DOUBLE-DIGIT TREYS: With the Blazers' 12 3-pointers against Cincinnati last Wednesday night, it marked the sixth time in the Murry Bartow era - and second time this season - that a Blazer squad has achieved double-digit treys. UAB is 4-2 in those games. The following is a list of UAB's double-figure 3-point outings since the 1996-97 season:
No., Opponent (Dec., Date)
13, vs. Tulane (W, 98-76, 1/7/01)
12, at Cincinnati (L, 90-83, 1/17/01)
11, at Charlotte (L, 86-74, 2/23/97)
10, vs. South Florida (W, 92-76, 2/26/98)
10, at Houston (W, 104-70, 2/21/98)
10, vs. Texas-Arlington (W, 94-63, 12/1/98)
THE ROSTER: The Blazers return eight players from last year's squad, while welcoming six newcomers into the fold. Of the 14 players on the preseason 2000-2001 roster, seven hail from the state of Alabama, while three call Tennessee home, along with two from Kentucky, one from New York and one from Serbia. The roster lists five seniors, three juniors, three sophomores and three freshmen.
SPREADING THE WEALTH: For the first time all season, UAB had just one player score in double figures as LeAndrew Bass had 20 points in its loss to Southern Miss on Jan. 13. In all but one other game this season, the Blazers have had at least three players score in double digits and enjoyed a season-high five players scoring at least 10 points twice - coming against Murray State (12/8) and Cincinnati (1/17).
BASS IS SIXTH IN CAREER ASSISTS: Senior LeAndrew Bass moved into sixth place on the UAB career chart for assists Jan. 3 against Alcorn State with four and then made a big jump toward fifth place with a career-best 13 against Tulane (1/7). Bass now has his sights set on fifth place and needs 39 to overtake Michael Charles who notched 403 from 1984 to 1988. Bass needs 10 assists this season to reach the century mark and become the first Blazer to record 100 assists in a season since Eric Holmes had 102 during the 1998-99 campaign.
BLAZERS DO WELL WHEN THEY SCORE 70 OR MORE: This season, UAB is 8-3 when they score at least 70 points in a contest. The Blazers are 7-2 when they hold their opposition to 70 points or less.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES FOR THE BLAZERS: Twice this season UAB has had a pair of players collect double-doubles. David Walker (19 pts., 13, reb.) and Will Campbell (19 pts., 12 reb.) achieved that feat against Tulane (1/7), while Campbell and LeAndrew Bass combined for the first duo double-double of the season against Virginia Commonwealth (12/30). Campbell notched 11 points and 12 rebounds in that game, while Bass recorded the first double-double of his career with 14 points and a career-best 11 rebounds against the Rams.
MORE ON THE DOUBLE-DOUBLES: David Walker and Will Campbell each have four of UAB's nine double-doubles this season. For his career, Walker has notched 10 double-doubles, including a career-tying 20 points and career-best 13 rebounds against Hawai'i (12/23).
