BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB men's basketball team hits the road for the second time in league play, this time traveling to Hattiesburg, Miss., to play Southern Miss on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT.  The game will be televised by CSS.

> UAB enters Saturday's game with an overall record of 8-9 after falling last Saturday to Memphis, 69-53.

> UAB ranks fourth in the conference in scoring, putting in 73.6 points per game.  Rod Rucker leads the team in per game average in points (14.3) and rebounds (8.4).  Rucker also tops the squad in field goal percentage (51.2) and blocks per game (0.7).

> As a team, the Blazers are shooting 42.3 percent from the floor and 31 percent from beyond the arc.  In addition, UAB ranks second in the conference in assists per game, dishing out 16.4 as a team.

On The Golden Eagles
> Southern Miss is coming off a win on the road this past Wednesday, defeating SMU 74-70.  In that contest, the Golden Eagles overcame a 19-point deficit to remain perfect in league play at 3-0.

> USM features the fifth longest home winning streak in Division I, winners of 21 consecutive home games in Reed Green Coliseum.  The last time the Golden Eagles lost at home was coincidentally against the Blazers on March 2, 2011, by the score of 67-66.

> Overall Southern Miss features a balanced offense, sporting five players that average 8.9 points per game or better.  Dwayne Davis tops the team in scoring, pouring in an even 13 points per contest, while teammate Jerrold Brooks also averages in double figures (10.3).

> USM is a strong shooting team, making 48.7 percent of its attempts overall and 37.7 percent from 3-point range.  The Golden Eagles also perform well at the foul line, making 71.4 percent of their tries.  In addition, USM plays great defense, allowing only 58.1 points per game, the second lowest total in C-USA.


Home Winning Streak Snapped
In their last contest, the Blazers suffered their first home loss of the 2012-13 season, falling to Memphis, 69-53.  Not only had UAB been a perfect 7-0, it had won 11 straight home games dating back to last season prior to being clipped by the Tigers.

Rucker Keeps On Double-Doubling
Rod Rucker poured in a team-best 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against Memphis, marking his seventh double-double of the season.  In fact, Rucker has posted double-doubles in three consecutive games and scored in double figures in seven straight contests.  Over the last three games, Rucker is averaging 17.6 points and 13.3 rebounds per game.

Purifoy's Big Shot In Hattiesburg
Back on March 2, 2011, then a freshman, Preston Purifoy hit what proved to be the game-winning 3-pointer with 4.1 seconds to defeat Southern Miss, 67-66, in Reed Green Coliseum.  That victory by the Blazers was the last time Southern Miss lost at home, winners of 21 straight, which marks the fifth longest home winning streak in Division I.
