BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB's men's basketball team, winners of 10-straight games inside Bartow Arena, welcome the UTEP Miners on Saturday for a 7 p.m. tip.
Saturday's contest will air locally on the Blazer IMG Sports Network on 107.7 FM, with David Crane (play-by-play) and Bobby Frasor (analyst) on the call.
The 15th all-time meeting between the Blazers and Roadrunners is the second game of a Saturday doubleheader on the UAB campus. The Blazers' women's basketball team hosts Middle Tennessee at 4 p.m.

Five Things To Know
• Tonight’s meeting marks the 15th between UAB and the UTEP Miners. The Blazers hold an 8-6 advantage, with the last meeting coming last January when UAB won 78-72. Three of the last five meetings have been overtime games.
• Saturday’s contest features two of the top defenses in Conference USA. UTEP is No. 2 in the league in scoring defense (64.5 ppg), while UAB ranks third in both field goal percentage defense (.401) and 3-point field percentage defense (.290).
• The Blazers blocked 13 shots Thursday night against UTSA, which tied for the fourth-most all time in a single game in UAB history.
• UAB returns to Bartow Arena, where the Blazers are a perfect 10-0 at home this season. UAB has not lost a home game since falling to UCF, 74-70, on March 6, 2013.
• UAB averages 47.3 rebounds per game -- the top mark in NCAA Division I men’s basketball.
» UTEP is the second school the Blazers will play from the state of Texas this week. In all, UAB is 53-12 against schools from the Lonestar State. SMU, TCU and UTEP are the only Texas programs the Blazers have lost to in their 36-year history.
Extra Basketball For These Two Teams
» Three of the last five meetings between the Blazers and Miners have gone to overtime, including a three-overtime thriller that UAB won, 100-97, on Jan. 8, 2011. Last year's meeting at Bartow came down to overtime as well, with the Blazers taking a 78-72 win on Jan. 30, 2013.
Watts Seeing Increased Playing Time
» UAB freshman guard Denzell Watts has seen increased playing time over the last three games. Watts, a native of Flint, Mich., has played over 20 minutes and scored at least six points or more in the last three games (Newberry College, Middle Tennessee and UTSA).
Washington Stepping Up As Of Late
» Forward C.J. Washington, who has led UAB in scoring six times this season, has scored in double figures in five-straight games, with three of these being double-doubles. Most recently, Washington scored a game-high 20 points, had a career-high with three blocks and tallied a career-best 11 rebounds vs. UTSA on Thursday.
Blazers Have Block Party Vs. UTSA
» UAB blocked 13 shots against UTSA on Thursday night -- the first time since Nov. 16, 2011 that the Blazers have recorded double-digit blocks. The 13 blocks were three shy of the 16 that UAB had against St. Mary’s (Minn.) College on Nov. 25, 1983.
» The 13-block performance also marked just the sixth time in school history that the Blazers have recorded 13 or more blocks in a single game.
UAB Leads Nation In Rebounding
» According to ESPN.com’s statistical rankings, UAB is the No. 1 rebounding team in the nation, averaging 47.3 boards per game. The Blazers have recorded over 50 rebounds six times this season (54 vs. Rutgers, 53 vs. Troy, 62 vs. New Mexico, 52 vs. North Carolina 51 vs. Alabama A&M and 50 vs. Newberry College). The 62 against New Mexico represents the fifth time in school history that UAB has had 60-plus rebounds. The school record is 69, which came against South Alabama on Dec. 20, 1994.
Swing Approaching 1,000 Career Points
» UAB guard Jordan Swing is approaching the 1,000 career point mark. The Birmingham native, who now has 966 career points, began his career at Western Kentucky before transferring to the hometown Blazers for his final three seasons.
Three UAB Players Have Started Every Game
» Fahro Alihodzic, Chad Frazier and Jordan Swing have found themselves in the starting lineup in each of UAB’s 16 games this season. Swing has now started 23-straight games dating back to last year.
Blazers In 19th Season In C-USA
» UAB is in its 19th season of Conference USA action. The Blazers, who have won two regular season C-USA Championships (2004 and 2011) average nine wins per season all time in C-USA action.
» The Blazers will play eight new league members this season. UAB holds an all-time record of 54-26 (.679) against teams who will begin Conference USA play for the first time in 2013-14.
» UTEP enters Saturday’s game with a 12-6 overall record and 2-1 mark in Conference USA action. In conference play, the Miners are led by John Bohannon and Julian Washburn, who each average over 16 points per game in league action.
» The Miners have won two-straight on the season with a home victory against Marshall and a road triumph at Middle Tennessee on Saturday. In fact, UTEP has won seven of its last eight games this season.
» UTEP is coached by veteran coach Tim Floyd, who holds a 398-227 overall record in his 20th season of coaching.
