BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB men's basketball team opens a new chapter in the 2012-13 season by beginning Conference USA action on Wednesday at UCF. The contest is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT at the UCF Arena in Orlando, Fla.
The Blazers begin their 18th season as members of Conference USA and own a record of 11-6 in league openers. UAB lost its first league game last year at home to Memphis, 62-59. In the 2010-11 season, the Blazers started off conference action with a thrilling 100-97 victory over UTEP in triple overtime.

UAB held a commanding 7-0 lead in the all-time series, but the Knights won all three meetings last season. In fact, the Knights knocked out the Blazers in the C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals to end UAB’s season.

>> In the loss against the Flyers, Rod Rucker posted his fifth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds.
>> UAB ranks third in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 76.7 points per game. The Blazers also rank second in the league in assists (17.2), which also ranks 13th in the nation.
>> UAB has made the most 3-pointers (104) of any team in C-USA this season. On average, UAB makes 6.9 treys per game.
>> UCF enters with a 10-4 record after defeating Florida A&M at home, 99-69, last Saturday.
>> The Knights average 71.9 points per game, led by Keith Clanton, who pours in a team-best 16.9 per contest.
>> UCF tops C-USA and ranks 12th in the nation in field goal percentage (49.7). The Knights also rank 22nd in 3-point shooting percentage (39.2) in Division I.
>> Keith Clanton has posted seven double-doubles this season and ranks 13th in Division I in shooting percentage (61.1). He also ranks third in rebounds (9.6) and sixth in scoring per game in the conference.
>> Isaiah Sykes ranks seventh in scoring (15.4) and third in assists (4.9) in C-USA and posted a rare triple-double earlier this season.
