BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Having won six of its last seven games, the UAB men's basketball team hosts its final non-conference contest on Saturday, when the Blazers welcome Newberry College to Bartow Arena at 2 p.m. CT.
Saturday's game will air on 107.7 FM locally in Birmingham. Tickets for the contest can be purchased through the UAB Athletics Ticket Office at 205-975-8221.
FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
• UAB and Newberry College meet on the hardwood for the first time on Saturday.
• The Blazers have won six of their last seven games on the season. Their five-game win streak from Nov. 27-Dec. 18 was their longest since the 2009-10 campaign.
• The Blazers are a perfect 8-0 at home this season and have won 11 of their last 12 at Bartow Arena dating back to 2012-13.
• UAB averages 48.4 rebounds per game -- the top mark in NCAA Division I men’s basketball.
• UAB ranks No. 2 in C-USA in field-goal percentage defense. Teams have hit 344-of-866 (.397) from the field against the Blazers this year.

UAB Leads Nation In Rebounding
» According to ESPN.com’s statistical rankings, UAB is the No. 1 rebounding team in the nation, averaging 48.4 boards per game. The Blazers have recorded over 50 rebounds five times this season (54 vs. Rutgers, 53 vs. Troy, 62 vs. New Mexico, 52 vs. North Carolina and 51 vs. Alabama A&M). The 62 against New Mexico represents the fifth time in school history that UAB has had 60-plus rebounds. The school record is 69, which came against South Alabama on Dec. 20, 1994.
» The Blazers have doubled up two opponents this season on the boards. UAB doubled Rutgers’ rebound total of 27 as the Blazers had just as many offensive boards (22) as the Scarlet Knights had defensively. Against Troy, UAB outrebounded the Trojans, 53-24, including a 39-16 advantage on the defensive glass.
40-Plus Boards In 12 Games; 50-plus In Five Games
» UAB has recorded 40 or more rebounds in 12 of its 13 games this season and has hit that mark in seven-straight contests. The Blazers have also recorded 50 or more five times this season, including 51 in their last game vs. Alabama A&M.
Blazers Win Five-Straight From Nov. 27-Dec. 18
» UAB rode a five-game win streak from Nov. 27-Dec. 18. It was the Blazers’ longest win streak since the 2009-10 season when the Blazers won seven in a row from Jan. 2-Jan.26.
Williams Records First Double-Double
» UAB redshirt senior guard Robert Williams recorded the first double-double of his UAB career in the contest against Alabama A&M on Dec. 29. The Greenville, Miss., native scored 12 points and tied a career high with 11 rebounds. In all, four Blazers scored in double figures against the Bulldogs.
Frazier Among Junior College Transfer Scoring Leaders
» Chad Frazier, who has scored in double figures 12 games this season, ranks No. 3 in the country in scoring among junior college transfers who are in their first year with their respective schools. Frazier is averaging 17.6 points per game, which is just behind the 20.5 from Southeast Missouri’s Jarekious Bradley and Grambling’s A’Torri Shine’s 17.9 ppg for most in the nation.
Frazier Garners Two-Straight C-USA Honors
» Blazer junior point guard Chad Frazier was named the C-USA Player of the Week in consecutive weeks (Nov. 25 and Dec. 2) earlier this season. Frazier, who scored 25 points vs. No. 16 North Carolina, is the first player in UAB history to win back-to-back C-USA Player of the Week honors. The Blazers have now won three C-USA Player of the Week honors. UAB has never had more than four C-USA Player of the Week winners in a single season.
Bartow Friendly To The Blazers
» UAB is currently 8-0 at home on the year. The Blazers play a school-record 17 games inside Bartow Arena this season.
» Under head coach Jerod Haase, the Blazers are 19-4 at home dating back to last season.
SCOUTING NEWBERRY COLLEGE
» Newberry College, who competes in the Division II South Atlantic Conference, enters Saturday’s contest with an 8-2 overall record and 4-2 mark in SAC action. The Wolves are coached by Dave Davis, who is in his fourth season at Newberry and 23rd overall season as a head coach.
» Newberry is a high-scoring team that averages 91.5 points per game. The Wolves are led in scoring by Dondray Walker’s 15.9 points per game. In total, four Wolves average in double figures this season.
