UAB vs. South Carolina State
November 27, 2005
UAB Head Coach Mike Anderson
On UAB's play:
"In the UMASS game, we shot the ball well. Tonight, we didn't shoot well but our defense was solid."
On South Carolina State:
"Even though we had the stats going our way, they hung around."
On the Blazers' shooting problems:
"We missed a lot of wide open shots. They played a zone defense all game and played the percentages. It worked to their advantage."
On the UAB point guard position:
"We're not a team that is strictly a point guard team. That's something we're working on. Mo Gibbs could be one of those guys who comes in and gets some minutes at the point too."
On the Western Kentucky game:
"They were probably one win from going to the NCAA Tournament last year. We'll come in tomorrow and work on some things and get ready to play a very good Western Kentucky team."
UAB Senior Guard Squeaky Johnson
On his record setting performance:
"I just went out and did my best to play good defense. Coach Anderson has always told us that if we can't hit our shots, then we need to play defense. We weren't hitting our shots early, so I just tried to leave it all on the floor."
On forcing turnovers and scoring points off turnovers:
"We haven't been practicing as long as we usually do this week. We've only been practicing for about 45 minutes over the last couple of days. Coach told us to save our energy for the game today. When we came out we had a lot of energy today."
