BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Reggie Huffman scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead UAB to a 64-50 victory over Eastern Kentucky.
The Blazers were playing their first game without senior guard Paul Delaney III, who will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. Several players stepped their play up, led by Huffman's performance.
Huffman scored all but two of his points in the second half and made three baskets down the stretch to hold off an Eastern Kentucky rally.
Darnell Dialls had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead Eastern Kentucky (2-2). Jamaal Douglas, Adam Leonard and Josh Taylor scored nine points apiece for the Colonels.
Mike Rose, Eastern Kentucky's leading scorer, with a 14.3 average, scored only five points on 2-for-14 shooting.
Sharpe scored three early baskets inside to help UAB to a 12-2 lead. The Blazers went on to lead 31-18 at halftime.
The margin grew to 16 points early in the second half. But Eastern Kentucky chipped away and pulled to within five points at 55-50 on a driving three-point play by Douglas with 3:35 left.
Huffman scored inside off a feed from Kinnard to spark a 9-0 UAB run to close out the game.
The Blazers will battle Jacksonville on Saturday in Bartow Arena. Tip time is set for 1 p.m. CT.
