Florida Atlantic Surges Past UAB, 82-71

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) - Rod Ruckerled UAB with 19 points, but Florida Atlantic pulled away for an 82-71 win over the Blazers on Saturday night.

Florida Atlantic (9-15, 4-5 Conference USA) trailed by as many as 12 in the first half but came back to take the lead just more than four minutes into the second. UAB led 38-32 at the half, but the Owls outscored the Blazers, 50-33, in the second period on the way to the win.

FAU shot 57 percent from the field in the final stanza, knocking in 16-of-28 shots. Pablo Bertone scored 20 points in the second half, and at one point scored seven unanswered points to propel FAU to the win.

Chad Frazier added 18 for UAB (14-9, 3-6 C-USA), but went just 5 of 20 from the field. The Blazers, who lost their third-straight game, shot 37.7 percent for the game. 

Bertone hit 13 of 20 from the field and scored a career-high 34 points for Florida Atlantic, which hit 7 of 16 from 3-point range. D'Andre Johnson added 13 points, Kelvin Penn scored 12 and Marquan Botley had 11.

UAB had four players in double figures, including 13 each from Fahro Alihodzic and Robert Williams. Williams finished just shy of a double-double with eight rebounds on the night.

UAB now returns home to host Southern Miss on Thursday at Bartow Arena. Opening tip between the Blazers and Golden Eagles is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT.
