DENTON, Texas ---- UAB guard Chad Frazier scored 20 points and the Blazers outrebounded North Texas, 53-39, but it was not enough as the UAB men's basketball team fell to the Mean Green, 76-65, at The Super Pit Thursday.
UAB falls to 12-6 overall, 1-3 in Conference USA action, while North Texas improves to 11-8, 2-3 in the league.
The Blazers finished just 15-for-28 (53.6 percent) from the free-throw line and shot just 30 percent (22-of-72) from the floor against the Mean Green. Thursday's contest did mark the seventh time this season UAB has recorded over 50 boards in a game.
North Texas came out hot in the first half, hitting 16-of-29 (55 percent) - including 5-of-8 from 3-point range - on its way to a 44-38 halftime advantage.
The Mean Green led by as many as 12 in the opening period, using a 14-2 run to go up 24-12 with 10:53 remaining in the half.
The Blazers countered with a 14-5 run of their own to climb back in the game. Frazier led UAB in the opening stanza with 12 points, while Alihodzic added 10 points.
In the second half, UAB climbed back to within one, 46-45, off a 3-point basket by Frazier, but North Texas maintained control throughout and extended its lead to as much as 13 in the final period.
UAB now travels to Tulsa to take on the Golden Hurricane at 3 p.m. Saturday.
