UAB Torches Alabama State Behind Vaden's Seven Triples

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) ----- Robert Vaden scored 25 points to continue his hot streak and lead UAB to a 70-42 victory over Alabama State.

Vaden had scored 33, 23 and 27 points in the three games leading up to Alabama State. He scorched the Hornets for 16 points in the first half and finished with seven 3-pointers.

Chief Kickingstallionsims, a reserve center, had 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead Alabama State in both categories.

UAB (10-5) jumped to a 15-5 lead as Vaden hit two early 3-pointers and Frank Holmes scored five points around the basket.

Alabama State (4-6) pulled to within three at 15-12. But UAB closed the half with a 14-3 run to take a 37-19 lead at intermission.

Vaden drilled three 3-pointers early in the second half to help UAB lead by as many as 30 points.

Reserve forward Howard Crawford scored eight points and Lawrence Kinnard grabbed 12 rebounds for UAB. Wednesday's game was the final non-conference game of the season for the Blazers, who will open their Conference USA schedule against Tulane on Jan. 9 in New Orleans.
