BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB baseball team announced the signing of Holt Davis from Lawrenceville, Ga., to the 2014 UAB baseball signing class.
Davis will provide UAB head coach Brian Shoop with plenty of versatility, as Davis, who stands 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, has the ability to catch and play both corner outfield and infield positions.
"Holt was one of the better kept secrets this recruiting season because home schooled student-athletes sometimes fly under the radar, but Holt will be a find college player," Shoop said. "He played home school baseball under the tutelage of one of my former players, Lincoln Martin, who played professional baseball and scouted for the Houston Astros, so Holt is well trained and well evaluated."
In the summer, Davis played with the 6-4-3 Athletics program for the 17U Cougars and was coached by Danny Praigo. In addition, Davis participated in the Perfect Game Tournament in Atlanta, Ga., earning 2012 All-American Honorable Mention honors as an underclassman.
"Holt is a great student and is taking most of his senior year classes at a local junior college, so he will come to UAB ahead academically and should be another outstanding student at UAB," Shoop said. "He also possess strong leadership qualities with a strong faith in God and we expect him to be a leader both on and off the field in our program. He is an amazing young man from a great family and will make a big difference on the UAB campus. We are thrilled to add Holt to the UAB baseball family."
