Nov. 20, 2012
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB baseball team announced the signing of Clarksville, Tenn., native Venn Biter to a National Letter of Intent, to join the Blazers for the 2014 season.
Biter, an outfielder, is in his senior year at Rossview High School, where he hit .333 and finished second on the team in hits (34), RBI (33), total bases (49) and runs scored (27) and led the team in triples with three during his junior campaign.
"We first saw Venn at the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Top Upperclassmen event, and immediately targeted him as the outfielder we would love to have in this recruiting class," head coach Brian Shoop said. "Venn was exactly what we were looking for -- a left-handed hitter who can run, hit for power and who can also defend the field at a high level. We really believe that there was no better fit as a player at UAB than Venn and we have to no doubt that he will have a great college career as a Blazer before he begins his professional career."
Biter was a key contributor in Rossview winning back-to-back District and Tournament Championships the past two seasons, along with a runner up finish in the Regional Tournament. During the 2012 season, Biter garnered 10 AAA All-District Team honors and was named to the The Leaf - Chronicle All-Area Team.
"Venn played high school baseball for Jason Rice at Rossview High School so he is well prepared for Division I baseball. This past fall, Venn played for Sean GIbbs on the Royals Scout Team so he continued to play against top flight competition," Shoop said.
Following his junior season, Biter played summer baseball for the 18U Clarksville Orioles. In addition, Biter was selected to play in the first annual Border Wars in Marietta, Ga., for Team Tennessee. Biter was then selected to play in the World Wood Bat Association World Series, run by Perfect Game in Jupiter, Fla., which included some of the top high school prospects from both the United States and Puerto Rico.
Biter also has the opportunity to play for the Kansas CIty Scout Team this past fall.
"Venn has a tremendous work ethic and loves the weight room as evidenced by his physicality and that translates into power potential," Shoop said. "He comes from another caring and involved family and we welcome the entire Biter family into the Blazer baseball family. We could not be more pleased with the outfielder that is joining the Blazers for the 2014 season."
