BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB baseball team has announced that Tripp Coble will be joining the squad for the 2014 season. The infielder comes to Birmingham from Orlando, Fla., where he played at Boone High School for four years.
Coble was a four-year letterwinner at Boone under head coach Pete Post. As a senior, he owned a .381 average and registered 27 RBI. For his efforts, Coble earned All-Metro Conference honors and was selected as the team’s Most Valuable Hitter. He helped his squad to the 2013 district championship and region semifinals, as well.
“Tripp comes to UAB from a very successful high school baseball program in central Florida,” UAB head coach Brian Shoop commented. “He has been trained by Coach Post, who has prepared a lot of top Division I players over the years. After meeting Tripp face to face, we could tell he was exactly the type of young man we want in our program. He is a great student, a model citizen and a tough competitor on the field.”
Off the field, Coble was a member of the National Honor Society at Boone. He also was a graduate of the Academy of Finance Honors Magnet Program.
“Tripp is an offensive infielder and in an age where hitting is down in college baseball, we are hopeful Tripp will bring an offensive presence to our lineup,” Shoop added. “Tripp also brings a blue collar approach to the field and his work ethic is exactly what we want from our incoming players. We believe he will fit right in and we are extremely pleased that Tripp will be joining the UAB baseball family this fall.”
