Baseball's Schalk Selected To Cape Cod Home Run Derby

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB baseball outfielder/first baseman Jeff Schalk was selected to compete in the Cape Cod League Home Run Derby, set to take place on July 27 at Red Wilson Field in Yarmouth, Mass.

The home run derby will start at 3:30 p.m. ET and will precede the 2013 Friendly's CCL All-Star game, which is set for 4:30 p.m. ET. The game will televised nationally on Fox College Sports.

Schalk, who plays for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, was one of six players selected to compete in the home run derby.

On the season, the Wheaton, Ill., native has clubbed four homers in just 55 at bats this season.  His home run total is tied for first on his team and tied for third in the league.

Overall, Schalk is hitting .273, with four homers, two doubles, 10 RBI and averaging a round tripper once every 13.8 at bats. The Hawks enter the week with a record of 19-11 this summer.
