Chase Mallard recorded one save in three outings for the Bluefield Blue Jays.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Former UAB right-handed pitcher Chase Mallard was officially promoted to the Vancouver Canadians on Tuesday, July 1. Vancouver is the Toronto Blue Jays’ Short-Season A affiliate in the Northwest League.
After being drafted by Toronto in the 14th round of the 2014 MLB Draft, Mallard was assigned to the Bluefield Blue Jays, the Blue Jays’ Rookie affiliate in the Appalachian League. Mallard made three appearances for Bluefield, holding a 2.61 ERA over 10.1 innings pitched. The Cullman, Ala. native recorded a three-inning save in his first professional outing against the Johnson City Cardinals on Friday, June 20, retiring all nine batters he faced.
Mallard had one of the best seasons by a pitcher in program history in 2014. The senior right-handed pitcher owned a 9-3 record with a 1.55 ERA. He was the only pitcher in the nation to record a quality start in each of his 14 starts during the regular season.
For his efforts on the mound, Mallard was named a 2014 Louisville Slugger Division I All-America Second Team honoree. He became the fourth All-American in program history. In addition, Mallard earned 2014 All-Conference USA First Team, 2014 Conference USA Pitcher of the Year, and 2014 Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association All-South Region Second Team accolades.
