BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB baseball program announced the signing of infielder Nathan Vincent from Wallace State (Hanceville, Ala.) CC to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Blazers in the 2014 season.

Vincent was a standout at Wallace State CC the past two years, earning first team all-region and all-conference accolades as a sophomore.  Last season, Vincent hit .330, roped five homers, 15 doubles, scored 40 runs and totaled 37 RBI.

Over his two years at Wallace State, the Russellville, Ala., native recorded 13 homers, 21 stolen bases, 23 doubles, 67 RBI and scored 83 times.

"Nathan is a special talent on the baseball field," UAB head coach Brian Shoop said.  "He can run, throw, hit and hit for power and we are excited that Nathan has chosen UAB to continue his baseball career. Nathan played both shortstop and third base at Wallace State where he played for a great coach in Randy Putman."

Prior to playing at Wallace State, Vincent put up some incredible numbers at Russellville High School.  He was named an all-state selection as a junior and senior at two different positions, shortstop and catcher. He was also a two-time Times Daily All-Area and Franklin County All-County selection.

In three years on the varsity squad, Vincent totaled 18 homers, 43 doubles, 15 triples, 52 stolen bases, 128 runs and 138 RBI.  During his senior campaign, Vincent hit an impressive .510 with nine homers, 51 RBI and 51 runs scored.

In addition, Vincent was named to the Alabama Coaches Association All-Star team twice, and was named to the Under Armour Tournament Team in 2010.

"We certainly expect Nathan to be an everyday player who is capable of hitting in the middle of our lineup," Shoop said.  "He will add speed, athleticism, and leadership by example both on and off the field. Nathan is a great young man who is close to his family so UAB will be a great fit for him personally and also allow his family and friends to see him play often.  We couldn't be more pleased than we are to add Nathan Vincent to our baseball family."
