Prinzing, Mims Named To C-USA All-Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- UAB junior designated hitter Ryan Prinzing and redshirt-sophomore infielder Tyler Mims each have been named to the 2013 Conference USA All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Prinzing, who has a 3.62 GPA in management, was named a 2013 Capital One All-Academic District 4 Team selection and a three-time C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll honoree. He has also been named to the Dean’s List three times.

The Oswego, Ill. native tops the team in batting (.337), home runs (3), on-base percentage (.446) and runs scored (37), while placing second on the Blazers in hits (64), doubles (10), total bases (87) and slugging percentage (.458).

Prinzing has also been a great clutch hitter this season, hitting a walk-off RBI single against Memphis on April 13 and launching a grand slam in a 10-9 victory against then No. 18 Rice on May 3.

During the final week of the regular season, he produced a .636 batting average, collecting seven hits in 11 at bats, scored four runs and knocked in three to help UAB secure the final spot in the C-USA Championship. For his efforts, Prinzing was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week on Sunday, May 19th.

Mims, who boasts a 3.92 GPA in industrial distribution, is a three-time C-USA Academic Medal winner and Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient. He also earned the UAB Presidential Honors four times.

The Hoover, Ala. native is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Student-Athlete Honor Society, Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and a Business Honors Program member.

The regular first baseman for the Blazers, Mims has six doubles, 16 RBI and is third in C-USA in hit by pitches with 13. He is fielding .987 on the season, committing only six errors in 454 total chances.



The Blazers will open the 2013 Conference USA Championship on Wednesday, May 22nd, when they will take on, top-seed and host, Rice at 7 p.m. CT in Houston, Texas.
