BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Redshirt junior catcher/first baseman Tyler Mims of the UAB baseball team was named to the 2014 Conference USA All-Academic Team, as announced on Monday by the league office. Mims was one of two players to be repeat selections.

The Hoover, Ala. native has played in 27 contests for the Blazers, starting 20. Mims owns a .250 batting average, one home run, 16 RBI, and two stolen bases. His five multiple RBI games ranks fourth on the team. He set a career-high with three runs batted in against Middle Tennessee on March 8 and clubbed his first home run at Charlotte on May 3.

In the classroom, Mims is a standout, as well. Mims, an industrial distribution major, boasts a 3.92 cumulative GPA. The redshirt junior is a four-time Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member and four-time recipient of the C-USA Academic Medal. He earned C-USA All-Academic Team honors last season, too.

Mims and the UAB baseball team opens postseason play on Wednesday, May 21 at the 2014 Conference USA Tournament in Hattiesburg, Miss. UAB, the No. 2 seed, takes on No. 7 seed UTSA at 4 p.m. CT at Pete Taylor Park.
