Parks Named C-USA Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week

May 7, 2001

UAB pitcher Andre Parks was named Conference USA's co-Pitcher of the Week after shutting out Louisville, 7-0 with a complete-game two-hitter this past Friday night.

Parks shared the honor with Tulane's Barth Melius, who struck out a career-high nine batters in beating Memphis 10-2.

It was the third time Parks, a junior from Luverne, Ala., has been honored by the conference. Against Louisville he retired the first 15 batters he faced. He did not allow a hit until an infield single to start the sixth. It was his second complete game of the year.

Parks is 5-0 with a 2.25 ERA, leading the Blazers in wins this season. He has two complete game shutouts and pitched seven innings of the 2-0 win over Memphis. Opponents are batting just .203 against him.

The Blazers host Samford, Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Young Memorial Field.
