BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On Saturday, April 26, the UAB baseball team hosted its Strike Out Cancer event during its contest against Marshall at Regions Field. The event was a success, raising more than $4,500.
UAB partnered with the Vs. Cancer Foundation in its fight against childhood cancer. After the game, players shaved their heads in support of the cause.
“More than anything, look at our kids shaving their heads,” head coach Brian Shoop said after the game. “I was so excited to see the young man who threw out the first pitch. What our guys have meant to him and how they have picked his life up and encouraged him. That’s even better. That’s the biggest win of the day.”
The UAB baseball team will return to the diamond on Friday night when it takes on Charlotte on the road. The three-game series against the 49ers begins on Friday night at 5 p.m. CT.
