BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior right-handed pitcher Chase Mallard of the UAB baseball team has been named to the 2014 National Pitcher of the Year Award Watch List, the College Baseball Hall of Fame announced on Friday. Mallard is one of 47 pitchers to be named to the list.

The National Pitcher of the Year Award is given annually to the nation’s top collegiate pitcher. Current Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg won the inaugural award in 2009.

He has a current streak of 12 consecutive quality starts, which is the longest streak in the country. A 2014 Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honoree, Mallard is leaving his marks on the UAB baseball record book, as well. The senior right-handed pitcher owns the best career ERA (2.74) and ranks fourth in career strikeouts (183). In addition, he has appeared in 68 games in his collegiate career, which ranks seventh in program history.
