BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB junior righthander Andre Parks (Luverne, Ala.) earned selection as Conference USA's baseball Pitcher of the Week Monday. The announcement came from the league office in Chicago.
Parks, who has accumulated a 4-0 record this season with a 2.50 earned run average, tossed seven shutout innings as three Blazer pitchers combined to blank Memphis 2-0 Saturday.
The six-foot-three hurler was part of his second shutout of the campaign as he tallied a seven-inning, complete-game gem against Eastern Illinois in March. In that outing, Parks allowed a pair of hits and struckout seven.
Against Memphis, Parks allowed five hits and five walks while fanning four. Parks stranded at least one runner in each inning and struckout the final batter of the frame three times to get out of trouble.
This season, Parks has allowed just 12 runs (10 earned) on 28 hits in 36 innings of work with 28 walks and 28 strikeouts and an opponent's batting average of .209.
In other UAB baseball news, the Blazers announced today that the Apr. 4 rained out contest at Samford will be made up May 2 at the Bulldogs' home park - Joe Lee Griffin Field.
