Baseball Suffers 5-2 Loss To No. 8 Alabama
The UAB baseball team jumped out to an early lead, but could not hold on as it lost 5-2 to No. 8 Alabama on Wednesday, April 16 at Regions Field. With the loss, UAB split its season series with in-state foe Alabama.

UAB was the first team to score for the 26th time this season, but could not preserve its early advantage. Alabama tallied three runs in the sixth inning and added two more in the eighth to secure its second win in the past seven meetings against the Blazers.

A crowd of 3,067 showed up to watch the in-state matchup at Regions Field. It marked the largest crowd to witness a UAB home baseball game since April 2, 2008 against Alabama at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

Stepping Up To The Plate
Junior first baseman Jeff Schalk has stepped up his play in Conference USA action. The junior first baseman currently leads the squad in batting average (.340), runs scored (10), home runs (3), RBI (9), total bases (28), and walks (8) in league play. In addition, Schalk ranks fourth in home runs (3) and eighth in on-base percentage (.419) in conference games.

In the squad’s last two C-USA three-game series, Schalk was 10-for-24 from the plate. Schalk has recorded five runs scored, five RBI, and two home runs in that six-game span.
