BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB baseball team will square off against Conference USA opponent Memphis in a three-game series, starting Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT at Young Memorial Field.
It will be the first meeting between the two schools since facing off in the Conference USA Tournament Championship last May, which the Blazers claimed 5-0 for their first-ever league championship.

The UAB baseball team received outstanding pitching from seniors Ryan Nance and Michael Busby, while Jeff Schalk hit a two-run homer to give the Blazers their first Conference USA Championship in program history, defeating Memphis, 5-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Green and Gold will make just their second ever NCAA Regional appearance, the other taking place in 1991.

The Blazers blanked Memphis, 5-0, to claim their first-ever Conference USA Tournament Championship and advance to the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 1991.
Busby entered the game with the Blazers up 3-0 with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh. The right-hander recorded back-to-back strikeouts to escape the threat and eventually earn the save.

UAB Scouting Report
The Blazers hope to get back on track, after dropping a pair of road midweek games at Samford and at Jacksonville State.
The Blazers are hitting .262 as a team and averaging 3.97 runs off 8.55 hits per game.
UAB is led by senior John Frost, who tops all of Conference USA with a .378 batting average and .457 on-base percentage. The Decatur, Ala., native is currently on a team-best 13-game hit streak.
Chase Davishas also been a spark in the Blazer lineup hitting .542 over the last five games. He enters the weekend with a .327 overall batting average, second-best on the club.
Tanner Bryant and Sam Kelleyare the announced Friday and Saturday starters for the Blazers, with Sunday yet to be determined. Bryant is 2-3 with a 4.31 ERA, while Kelley is amongst the C-USA leaders in ERA at 2.10 and sports a 3-2 record.
Memphis Scouting Report
Memphis defeated Arkansas Pine Bluff twice during the week to sit at 20-13 overall and 5-4 in league play.
Pitching has been the key to success for the Tigers, as Memphis owns a team ERA of 2.66. Tiger arms have a total of 281 strikeouts and only 105 walks in 291 innings. Opponents are only hitting .224 against Memphis this season.
A trio of southpaws will start for Memphis this weekend, featuring Alex Gunn, Erik Schoenrock and Sam Moll. The tree lefties combined have a record of 11-6 and all have earned run averages below 2.80.
At the plate, Tucker Tubbs tops the Tigers with a .310 batting average. Teammate Jake Little has provided pop for Memphis lineup, hitting .295 with 15 extra-base hits, including four homers. He has also knocked in 19 runs on the season.

Sizzling Streaks For Frost
John Frostcurrently has a 13-game hitting streak and has reached back in 14 consecutive contests. The last time the Decatur, Ala., native did not record a hit was back on March 16 against then No. 24 Indiana in Winter Haven, Fla., as part of the Russmatt Invitational.
The last time Frost did not get on base was vs. Valparaiso in Auburndale, Fla., on March 15, a game that was also a part of the Russmatt Invitational.
During his hit streak, Frost is hitting a robust .438 (21-for-48) with 11 walks and reaching base at a .541 clip along with slugging .667.
The Blazers have not used the long ball much this season, only connecting for seven round trippers as a team. When UAB has hit a homer, only one time has someone been on base. Six of the seven long balls have been solo shots, with the exception of Ryan Prinzing's three-run blast at Troy on March 12.
