BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB baseball team will play its first games in Regions Field when it opens the 2014 season with a three-game series against UT-Martin. UAB and UT-Martin are slated to open the set on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The latter two will be played on Saturday and Sunday, with both scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.

UAB will play 21 of its 30 home games at Regions Field, located in downtown Birmingham. Regions Field, the home of the Birmingham Barons, was named the 2013 Ballpark of the Year by Baseballparks.com.

Kicking Off 2014
Friday afternoon's game against UT-Martin marks the first game for the 2014 UAB baseball team. UAB is 25-10 all-time in season-opening games. The Blazers are 7-3 in its last 10 season-openers.

In addition, Friday's contest also marks UAB's first home game of the 2014 season. The Blazers are 25-10 in home-openers in program history. In its last 10 home-opening games, UAB owns an 8-2 mark.

Preseason All-Conference USA Honor
Senior outfielder Ryan Prinzing was named to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-Conference USA First Team, as announced on Feb. 6. Prinzing was the lone Blazer to earn preseason accolades leading into the 2014 season.

The Oswego, Ill. native led the 2013 UAB baseball team in batting average (.335), runs scored (38), home runs (3), and on-base percentage (.441). The only Blazer to appear in every game last season, Prinzing also led Conference USA in on-base percentage and ranked in the top-10 in four categories.

Shoop Is One Of The Winningest Active Head Coaches
UAB head coach Brian Shoop ranks among the top current head coaches in NCAA Division I baseball. With an all-time coaching mark of 893-512-1 heading into the 2014 season, Shoop ranks in the top 30 of the winningest active coaches by percentage and victories.

The eighth-year skipper ranks 21st among active Division I head coaches in victories. Shoop sports a .635 winning percentage in his 24 years of coaching, which ranks 26th.
