Baseball Starts Up Spring Practice Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB baseball team will begin its official spring practice schedule on Saturday at Young Memorial Field in preparations for the 2013 season.

Practices are open to the public and fans are encouraged to come watch the Blazers get ready for the upcoming season, which opens up on Friday, Feb. 15 at home vs. Southern Illinois at 3 p.m. CT.

The Blazers begin their practice schedule with an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday starting at 12:10 p.m. CT.  The scrimmage will feature pitchers Turner Lee, Chase Mallard, Ruben Tresgallo, Alex Luna, James Naile, Tanner Bryant Dylan Munger and Jacob German.

On Sunday, UAB will play its second intrasquad scrimmage, slated to start at 1:45 p.m. CT.  Pitchers that will throw include: Adam Lau, Nick Altobella, Cameron Rose, Cory Eller, Adam Lamar, Sam Kelley and Chase Davis.

UAB is coming off a historic season in 2012, finishing 32-30 and claiming its first-ever Conference USA Tournament Championship en route to qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history.



Following the two scrimmages over the weekend, UAB will practice the following times:

Monday:  OFF
Tuesday:  1:30-3:30 p.m.
Wednesday: 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Thursday: 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Friday: 2 p.m. (scrimmage)
Saturday: 12 p.m. (scrimmage)
Sunday:  1:45 p.m. (scrimmage)
