Director of Baseball Operations

Alma Mater:
UAB, 2009

Ben Drust enters his sixth season as a member of the UAB baseball staff as the program's director of baseball operations. His duties include setting up team travel, maintaining Young Memorial Field, and organizing both fall and summer camps for the Blazers.

Drust was a two-year member of the UAB program as a player, suiting up for the Blazers in 2008 and 2009 after transferring from John A. Logan (Ill.) College, where he played his freshman and sophomore seasons.

"During Ben's two years as a Blazer, he really grew into a coaching role," head coach Brian Shoop said. "This transition into our director of baseball operations was a natural move. Ben was a model teammate, loyal to UAB and loves our baseball program."

A reserve infielder with the Blazers, Drust saw action in 20 career games, including 11 as a senior in 2009. He posted a .300 batting average in limited plate appearances during his final campaign. Drust was more than a role player on the 2009 team, also serving the team's first base coach.

Prior to his arrival at UAB, Drust hit .331 with 33 runs scored and 20 RBI in his final season at John A. Logan. The Carterville, Ill., product earned a spot on the Great Rivers Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team that year.

A strong all-around athlete, Drust was a four-year letterwinner in baseball, basketball and football at Carterville High School.
