WHITNEY MAYS - CROSS COUNTRY
October 24, 2007
Hey Blazer Fans,
There really isn't too much to update since my previous blog. Our team didn't compete last weekend but definitely had a solid week of training. However the "B squad" competed in the 2-mile race at the Coach "O" Invitational. The meet was more of a workout for them and there were definite improvements, over last year’s meet there.
While they were racing, our top-5 stayed back in Birmingham to prepare for the Conference USA Championship on Saturday. For us, this is the time of the year when it is most important to have quality workouts. I felt we definitely achieved that. Tuesday was our last "speed" workout before conference, and it was more of a tune-up than a workout for us.
Our team will head to El Paso, Texas on Thursday afternoon. The race isn't until Saturday morning, so we will most likely run the course on Friday and have a chance to relax. I have to admit that I am kind of anticipating this trip back to El Paso. We ran at UTEP two years ago at the C-USA Track and Field Championship and it was quite adventurous. I know that we will make some good memories on this trip, which will hopefully include defending our conference title. We know it won't be easy, but it will be worth it!
