Seden Soyalp - Women's Tennis
February 4th, 2008
This is Seden Soyalp and here I am writing the first blog of the season. We have started this year with three seniors, including myself, and five freshmen from all around the world; England, Turkey, Canada, Holland, Australia and Italy.
Even though we are all from different countries, it was the sore legs after workouts and high-fives after the twenty overheads that deeply connected all these international forces.
Everyone has been giving so much effort even during practices in below freezing weather or with a crazy wind.
Now we are back to another season, one year later with a very young team. We had our first match and first win last Friday against North Alabama. The weather was very cold for our supporters, even more by seeing us playing in the tennis skirts and tops. By the way, thanks to all of them for coming and supporting us even in those conditions.
We started with the doubles matches. It is always important for us to win the doubles point to start singles more motivated and winning that point against North Alabama put us in a better mood.
In a tennis match, anything can happen, you can never be sure of a win or loss until the last point. This match was a good example of how shaky it can be. At one point, the matches were pretty close, besides a couple quick wins, but two of our freshmen, Evelien (Strijker) and Jenny (Cape), had great comebacks to help us win, 6-1.
Now, we are looking forward for our next two away matches against Southern Miss and Northwestern State.
Until next time,
