Saturday night we suffered our first conference loss when we couldn't quite catch up to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Our defense made some big plays, and the offense moved the ball up and down the field. We still have a lot of potential that we need to take advantage of.
After a few players got banged up on Saturday, Mike Jones and the crew in the training room are going to be fixing us up this week. I'm sure the healing will be done by Saturday's game against Mississippi State. We have a lot of really good players on this team but we can't afford to lose any one of them.
Some people may have given up on us or not even given us a chance from the start but I can say for sure that this team under Coach Callaway's leadership is not ever going to give up.
We were down by a couple touchdowns in the fourth quarter Saturday night and I saw a freshman receiver, Mario Wright catch a hitch with a defender between him and the first down marker. He charged the cornerback and stuck a stiff arm right on his chin and dragged the guy eight yards for a first down. "That got my chili hot"...I was pumped.
I wanted to hit somebody but my shoulder was a little banged up...so I wanted Mario to hit somebody again. The whole offense was on a mission regardless of the score and regardless of the time left in the game. I know we can win with that fight and it's just a matter of time. We ended up cutting the score to eight points on a touchdown that Mario caught a few plays later but the clock ran out before we got another chance. We've got a lot of football left to play and we're as excited as ever about the rest of the season.
