KATIE HENRICKS - WOMEN'S SOCCER
Hello UAB sports fans! I will introduce myself quickly and then we will get to the stuff that we all really care about, which is the team and what goes and has been going on recently. My name is Katie Henricks and I am a senior defender on the women's soccer team here at UAB.
Our team has been working hard since the beginning of August to prepare for this season. So far in regular season play, we have yet to lose a game and hope to continue our success against some good teams that will also help us prepare for our conference play in about a month.
A couple weeks ago, we had our first road trio of the year to Macon, Ga., which is also home to our starting goalkeeper, Kate Blankenship. We played Mercer and tied 0-0 after a hard fought battle. To regroup for our next game against Georgia State, our team actually went to Kate's home for dinner where we all enjoyed each others company, great food and some college football. The next day we beat Georgia State 2-0. Our team bounced back from a tough tie very well, which put us in good spirits for the next week of training to come.
This past weekend, we also had two must-win games against two top SEC schools that would establish us as a team to be reckoned with. We played Vanderbilt on Friday and held on to a 2-1 victory, with goals coming from Sally Palmer and Nadine Liverpool. With this big win we knew we would need to stay focused because the job was only halfway done. Sunday we played Ole Miss and won 1-0, with the goal from Justine Hartigan.
Needless to say, our season is going as good as can be expected, but we are still striving for more and are just now getting to some fun road trips and more big games.
We will travel this weekend to play in a tournament in Nashville, Tenn. hosted by Vanderbilt. We will play St. Mary's and Gonzaga.
I will be adding a blog to the website once a week to keep you updated about what's going on with our team, on and off the field, and so you can get to know us a little better. We appreciate all our fans, thank you and keep reading!
