FATIHA SALAAM - WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
February 11, 2008
I'm back again to bring you more updates on what has been going on with the UAB Women's Basketball team. We are currently 7-3 in Conference USA, which is good, but not where we should be. In my opinion, I believe that we should be undefeated right now in conference games. In all the three loses, we lost because we beat ourselves. Since conference play has started, we have really realized that this is a very, very competitive conference and each game is extremely important. Every team in this league fights until the very end.
In our past four games, we have gone 2-2. We beat Rice and UCF, but lost to Houston and Southern Miss. The wins against Rice (home) and UCF(away) were good wins for us. We lost to a good Houston team in overtime in a very competitive game. However, during the Southern Miss game, we lost and forgot about everything that we learned about ourselves in the past few games.
Southern Miss has been a rival to us for the past few years. We all wanted to win that game so bad. The game was very physical and exciting and their crowd was loud. Our shots just were not falling for us, but everything Southern Miss put in the rim went down the net. It was just very frustrating and we just could not come together and pull off this win. But with both the wins and losses, we have to learn and get ready for the next challenge. We canít focus on what went wrong for too long because we have two more games this week.
We play Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla. on Thursday evening and SMU at home on Sunday. Those two teams have a big post presence and Iím sure that they are wanting to come and grab a win against UAB. So, the next week we will be focusing on how to stop these two C-USA teams from accomplishing their goals of winning over UAB.
I believe I covered it all for the most part on what has been going on these past few weeks. We know what needs to be done and what happens the rest of the season all lies in our hands. We have recognized the mistakes that we made in the three conference losses so far, and we are going to do our best to fix them. Thank you for reading my blog and we hope to see you at our next home game on Sunday vs. SMU at 2:00 p.m.
