FATIHA SALAAM - WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
January 04, 2008
Happy New Year Blazer Fans!
It's No. 32, Fatiha Salaam signing in for another blog to give you, the readers, the latest scoop on what's been happening with the UAB women's basketball team. I hope everyone had a good and safe holiday.
Thankfully, Coach Smith gave us a five day break from Bartow Arena for the holidays. The team greatly appreciated those few days. On the 26th, we were right back in the gym working on our game and preparing for the exhibition game against Team Alabama and our last non-conference game against Mississippi State. We beat Team Alabama, but unfortunately, we lost to Mississippi State.
Now with a record of 4-9, we are still hungry for wins and plan on working harder to improve the little things that are hurting us during games. As a team, we know that change does not come over night and we have to improve those areas to get back on the right track. We plan on working hard, day in and day out, to improve those aspects of our game.
We play our first Conference USA game of the year Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against Memphis. I am sure that Memphis is just as hungry as we are for this first conference game. We plan on bringing the heat and coming out with a win. We have played some tough teams in our non-conference schedule, but we learned some valuable things about ourselves and we were put in some good predicaments that will help us in the long run.
In my opinion, I feel that the non-conference schedule that our coaches put together for us has prepared us for our C-USA games and reaching our goals of winning the conference and playing in the NCAA tournament. Although our record is 4-9, we do not plan on throwing in the towel. The ladies and I plan on turning this thing around and finishing this season on a positive note.
Well Blazer Fans, I believe that is about it. I would like to remind you all to come out Sunday afternoon and support us as we take on Memphis. Your attendance and support means a lot to us. Thank you for reading.
Until next time,
Fatiha "Fat" Salaam
