We opened conference play with a gutsy road win at Tulane. Tulane was one of the hottest teams in the league before that game. They had won four (4) in a row including a big win against LSU. In fact Tulane had three (3) wins against SEC teams under their belts (LSU, Georgia & Auburn). Our guys went in and as we say "we brought the fight to them". When we "Bring the Fight", we are a very dangerous team. What might have been the most important and impressive aspect of this game was that we won on the road with our best player not playing his best game. RV (Robert Vaden) had carried this team for the previous four (4) games averaging an incredible 27ppg during that span. On a night when he was chased, held, bumped, banged and anything else a defense can do to you, he persevered to give us 16 points. But we had several other guys contribute - including another double-double from Loe (Lawrence Kinnard) and some huge free throws by Ed Berrios with the game on the line. This is the second time Ed has come through in a clutch situation. We all remember his big free throws that were the difference in the Kentucky win. Without Walter Sharpe we have played the center position by committee and the guys have all found a way to contribute.
Now we move on to Wednesday night's game against Southern Mississippi at Bartow Arena. We all remember the two (2) losses they hung on us a year ago and particularly the overtime last second one at Bartow. We've done a better job of protecting our home court this season and our fans have been a big part of that. We will need all of our fans to come out and make it a very loud and uncomfortable place for Southern Mississippi and a true home court advantage for the Blazers. We are undefeated in 2008. Let's keep it that way!
