TIME TO REBOUND
Following a tough night at Legion Field, the Green and Gold will need a good "bounce back week." For the first time this season, it seemed as if the Blazers lost a little life, spirit, fight...choose your own word...as things started to go poorly against a very good Houston team last Saturday night. We've known all year that there isn't much room for error with this bunch, due to depth, youth and inexperience. Factor in the mounting injuries, and the coaches and players have, perhaps, their most challenging week of the season ahead.
There are winnable games remaining on the schedule, and that includes this Saturday's trip to Greenville. East Carolina has ridden a roller coaster this season, and Skip Holtz's team has the talent to compete with anyone in this league. The Pirates have a win over North Carolina at home, plus road wins over Houston (we all know how good they are) and UTEP. Those were followed by a somewhat puzzling loss at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium last Saturday to North Carolina State. ECU is tied for first in the East Division of Conference USA, so the Pirates can't afford any slip-ups if they want a shot at the league title.
We have said all year that this UAB squad is really quite resilient, and they players will need to be after the disappointing performance against the Cougars. I, for one, have no doubts that the team we see in Greenville on Saturday will look more like the team we've seen the majority of the time here in 2007.
The good news for Blazer fans not making the trip to ECU is that you'll still be able to see the game. Thanks to our great friends at Alabama's ABC 33/40, the UAB vs. ECU game will be shown live here in Birmingham. The Mid-Atlantic Sports Network will provide the coverage, and kickoff is set for 2:30 PM central time. We are so appreciative of the folks at ABC 33/40 for their amazing support of Blazer athletics, and I encourage you to express your appreciation, as well. We hope you enjoy watching the game, but we ARE a little selfish, so flip on the television, turn down the sound, and turn up your radio to HOT 107.7 FM here in Birmingham and listen to the Blazers ISP Sports Network!
Have a great week, and GO BLAZERS!!!
