Blazer Fans,

HAPPY HOMECOMING! And thanks to the Blazers for making it that way. What a sense of relief after the emotional roller coaster ride we went through last Saturday at Legion Field. The Green and Gold got off to a wonderful start...fell behind by 12 early in the second quarter...watched the defense pitch a shutout the rest of the way...and saw Joe Webb and the offense make enough big plays at the right time to come up with the first C-USA win of the year and the first-ever win over Marshall.

Coach Callaway had talked about adversity all week leading up to the game, and it appears as if his message was well-received. The players had a determined look about them against the Thundering Herd, and the longer the game went...the more success they had...the more their confidence grew. I LOVE blowout wins. Who doesn't? But I also think the team may have gotten much more out of this type game than had they simply rolled over Marshall.

It also makes this weekend even more enjoyable. The first open date of the season is coming at a good time. The Blazers have played 8 games, and, like most teams at this point in the season, there are some pretty good bumps and bruises. A couple of days away from the game could do wonders for everyone. Plus, it's good to know that, entering the final month of the season, UAB still has a ton to play for.

Next up is Southern Miss on Saturday, November 1st. We took care of one nasty streak against Marshall...why not scratch the Golden Eagles off the list, too? We'll talk more about USM next week, but it is TIME for the Blazers to get a win over their nemesis from Hattiesburg.

Despite the fact we don't have a game this week, the rest of our broadcast schedule remains the same. The call-in show will air Wednesday night at its usual time and place...7-8 PM on from the Patton Creek location of Baumhower's Wings Restaurant. Coach Callaway will be there for the first half of the show to recap the win over Marshall and talk about the off week for the Green and Gold. Then, we turn our attention to basketball. The season is right around the corner, and both the men and women have now been practicing for almost a week. Coaches Audra Smith and Mike Davis will join me to talk a little hoops from 7:30-8 PM.

The television version of "Blazers All-Access" will be seen at its normal time...Sunday at 11:35 PM on ABC 33/40. We'll have an interview with coach Callaway, a look back at the Marshall win, a tour of the new weight room, and don't miss Audra Smith in the "Hot Seat" previewing her squad in 2008-09 and giving us her thoughts on Mike Davis...pretty dang funny.

Well, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend of whatever! Get out and enjoy the fall weather...take in a football game...or just sit on the couch all day and watch the almost endless supply of match-ups. But get some rest, too. We'll need you ready to go for the home stretch.
